Londonderry Driving Test Centre

There are two practical driving test centres in Londonderry, Northern Ireland. One is located in Altnagelvin and the other located in New Buildings, Derry.

Both driving test centres address and telephone information can be obtained below. Both the driving test centre of New Buildings, Ballyore and Altnagelvin are located within 3.5 miles of each other and will feature a similar practical test, both likely to involve a combination of town and rural country road driving. Driving examiners design and plan each test route so to feature as many diverse roads and traffic systems as is possible.

Each practical test can expect to take candidates through various roundabouts, both large and busy, through to small mini roundabouts often located in residential areas. Other types of junctions and crossroads will involve small closed or ‘blind’ types to the busier multi-lane versions. Through either the back-streets and residential streets, examiners often request one of the possible four driving test manoeuvres.

The choice of manoeuvre is the examiners choice, although the turn in the road and left corner revers is the more common. The emergency stop procedure isn’t a requisite on each test and from every three practical tests conducted, one emergency stop is requested by the examiner. The practical driving test in Londonderry will take a total of around 40 minutes. From this 40 minutes, approximately 10 minutes is reserved for independent driving.

Examiner made me feel nervous and constantly writing on the notepad Had never done the test route ever before - not sure if my instructors fault or if the examiner just decided to pick a really difficult route
