Southampton Driving Test Centre

There are three practical driving test centres in Southampton. Two of the centres conduct tests for cars and one test centre for large vehicles (LGV).

Both test centres for cars are situated on the outskirts of Southampton, the driving test from Southampton Driving Test Centre will feature many diverse roads. Road types to be expected are rural village and country roads (see the country road driving tutorial for advice), high speed dual carriageway systems such as the A3024 and busy in-town and city driving in Southampton itself.

The examiner will be looking for a high standard of all road systems including roundabouts, both mini and multi lane, junctions and crossroads from small unmarked to large multi-lane light controlled systems.

Quieter residential streets often used for test manoeuvre purposes are also used to asses your ability for parking, meeting oncoming vehicles whilst parked vehicles are present (see passing parked cars) and good clutch control in areas of slopes. The emergency stop procedure isn’t compulsory on every test and has around a 1-in-3 possibility of being requested. The driving test from Southampton Driving Test Centre will take approximately 30 to 40 minutes and will include 10 minutes of independent driving.

BOOKING A DRIVING TEST AT Southampton DRIVING TEST CENTRE

Practical tests take place throughout the day from Monday to Friday at any of the test centres listed above. Certain centres that receive large quantities of bookings may also operate on Saturdays. Booking a test to take place on a Saturday incurs a slightly higher booking fee.

Book a driving test by phone
Practical driving tests can be booked over the telephone via an automated service. To book a test at any of the Southampton Driving Test Centres, see the book a driving test section for booking contact telephone numbers. Although this is an automated service, a Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) assistant can be reached by following the prompts.

Book your driving test online
The majority of test candidates book their driving test over the internet as the available free test slots are made visible to be taken. To make a test booking at any of the Southampton Driving Test Centres, see the book a driving test section.

Rescheduling or cancelling the driving test
Driving Tests can be rescheduled or cancelled. Changing your driving test date can be done providing three working days’ notice is given. To cancel your test and receive a full refund from DVSA bookings, three working days’ notice must also be provided. Saturdays are also classed as a working day.

Southampton DRIVING TEST CENTRE PASS RATES

Practical driving test pass rates vary from centre to centre. This can often be due to the location, often busier areas having a slightly lower pass rate. Driving tests can be taken at any UK test centre. Choosing an area that you feel more confident in may benefit. The driving test pass rates section may show driving test pass rate statistics for your practical test centre.

Southampton TEST CENTRE TELEPHONE NUMBER

For driving test booking and test amendments such as rescheduling or cancelling, please only contact the DVSA as above. Examiners at Botley give contradicting reasons for failing and are not consistent in their test conditions. The examiners are not professional enough and are not fit for purpose. They seem to enjoy the God complex and having the power to fail people for fun rather than being pragmatic and fair!
