To make a theory test booking by telephone or via the internet, you’ll just need your provisional driving licence as a few details are required from this. You can book the theory test via one of the two methods detailed below. The Driving and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) are responsible for managing all theory test bookings and Pearson Professional conduct the theory tests. Whilst making a booking, be sure to mention if you have any reading or hearing difficulties as help is available during the test.

Book a theory test by telephone
Booking a theory test can be made via the automated telephone line. You do not need to speak to anyone although there is an option to speak to a DVSA member of staff should you have any concerns or questions. Theory test bookings can be made in Weymouth by visiting the book a driving theory test section.

Book a theory test online
Booking a theory test via the internet is often the most popular due to the system displaying theory test time and date availability, allowing you to select a free slot. To book your theory test in Weymouth, see the book a driving theory test section for all DVSA theory test booking information.

RESCHEDULING OR CANCELLING THE THEORY TEST

You are entitled to reschedule the theory test for an alternative date and time, or cancel the test to receive a full refund. Please allow for a minimum of three working days notice (including Saturdays) for either of these to be possible.

AFTER YOU HAVE BOOKED YOUR TEST

After you have completed your theory test booking, you’ll receive an e-mail from the DVSA. Check your junk mail in case you didn’t receive it. This e-mail will confirm the theory test date appointment and provide you with a reference number. Although not essential to take to the theory test centre, it’s advisable to print this e-mail to show to the centre staff if any problems arise.

ATTENDING THE THEORY TEST

To aid in avoiding any issues on your arrival to Weymouth Theory Test Centre, bring along a printout of the confirmation e-mail you received from the DVSA. Please ensure you arrive at the test centre with your plastic photocard licence. The paper counterpart is no longer required. If you still retain the old style driving licence, this along with a suitable form of identification such as a valid passport must be taken. If you do not have a passport, you must apply for a new-style driving licence and take this with you.

Unless such items are taken, Weymouth Theory Test Centre will be unable to conduct the test and you will lose your theory test booking fee. If you have misplaced your licence, contact the DVLA who will send you a replacement. See the learning to drive section for information on obtaining a new licence. Late arrivals to Weymouth Theory Test Centre who miss the allotted time slot will be unable to sit the theory test and will also lose the booking test fee.

I had a theory test on Saturday morning and upon arrival, I was greeted by a woman who worked there outside the building. I ensured I arrived with plenty of time to spare but despite this, I was told sharply that I was late. Furthermore, once inside, as it was my first time, I of course was feeling nervous when she sarcastically made the comment, " it does say you must arrive 15 minutes early in the email but clearly no one reads it". I arrived 10 minutes before but only because I got caught in traffic! The gentleman who helped me into the test room was lovely, however. Finally, as I sit to complete my test, another person arrives (still before the 9 o'clock start) where he too was rudely told to leave and rebook- there was no sympathy at all. Overall, not a pleasant experience.
