Service Engine Soon DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHT

This light may cone on if the engine is under high load. Possible damage to the catalytic converter may result. Journey can continue though moderate speed and have engine checked soon. Both lights have the same meaning depending on location.





BMW 1 Series engine overheating dashboard warning light

Engine Overheating DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHT

If this symbol lights up in red on the BMW 1 Series, stop as soon as safely possible and turn off the engine immediately. Allow the engine to cool and check coolant levels. If light illuminates yellow, reduce speed to allow engine to cool. Get engine checked as soon as possible. An overheated engine can seize causing irreparable damage. See what is engine coolant for further information.


BMW 1 Series battery dashboard warning light

Battery DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHT

If this symbol lights up in red on the BMW 1 Series, the battery is no longer being charged due to an alternator malfunction. Turn off any unnecessary electrical utilities and have vehicle checked. If light illuminates in yellow, battery has low charge and needs replacing. Turn off any unnecessary electrical utilities. See Why is the battery warning light on for further help.

Engine Oil Pressure DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHT

This is the engine oil pressure symbol. If this illuminate, it means the engine oil pressure is too low. Stop the vehicle as soon as safely possible and turn off the engine. You will not be able to continue your journey. Contact a BMW centre.

If this light illuminates, it informs the driver that the engine oil level is too low. Replenish engine oil levels immediately. Running the engine with oil levels too low may cause damage.

Brake Fluid & Drive-Off DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHT

If this symbol illuminates red on the BMW 1 Series, the brake fluid levels are low and must be replenished immediately as braking may become defective. If the symbol illuminates yellow, Drive-Off Assist has malfunctioned and the car will not be held when the brake has been released. System will need to be rectified by a BMW centre.

If car on a service stand symbol illuminates red it indicates that the starter has failed, or the ignition is malfunctioning where engine restart is only possible when brake is pressed, or the lighting system has failed – low beams tail and brake lights still operational. If the symbol lights up yellow, the control of brake lights has failed, the fuel supply is malfunctioning or the electrical system of trailer hitch has failed. If this symbol illuminates along with any of the two symbols shown directly above, this indicates brake pads are worn.

This light illuminates when Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) or Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) is deactivated. If it flashes, it means DSC or DTC is controlling drive and braking forces.

This light illuminates when Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) is activated.

This light illuminates to indicate a driving stability control systems failure. This includes ABS, flat tyre monitor and tyre pressure monitor. Symbols vary for USA, Canadian and European models. Journey can be continued though instability may occur.

This combination of lights on the BMW 1 Series indicates an electronics failure. The vehicle cannot be driven.
