Located on the edge of Newbury, Newbury Driving Test Centre will feature a wide variety of routes and roads for the test. Rural country roads are likely on the test routes and represent a challenge due to fast roads and sharp bends. See the country road driving tutorial for further information.

High speed ‘A’ roads such as the A339 are also taken as part of the test routes. In town driving during the test will feature many traffic systems. From mini roundabouts often located within residential areas, to large multi-lane roundabouts, small unmarked junctions to large traffic light controlled junctions and crossroads will feature.

The examiner will request one of the possible four test manoeuvres with the possibility of the emergency stop procedure. One in every three tests conducted feature the emergency stop. Test centre routes are designed by the examiners who conduct practical tests at their local test centre.

The routes are designed in such a way so to involve as many diverse roads and traffic systems as possible, often including very challenging parts. Gaining knowledge of the test routes provides valuable insight into the type of roads that will be taken during your test. Driving test routes may be available to view or a downloadable app for your mobile device in your area, including Newbury Driving Test Centre.

Although driving tests can be booked and taken any time of day Monday to Friday, test candidates who schedule their test to take place during the quieter periods of the day often benefit.

Book a driving test by phone
Practical driving tests can be booked over the telephone via an automated service. To book a test at Newbury Driving Test Centre, see the book a driving test section for booking contact telephone numbers. Although this is an automated service, a Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) assistant can be reached by following the prompts.

Book your driving test online
The majority of test candidates book their driving test over the internet as the available free test slots are made visible to be taken. To make a test booking at Newbury Driving Test Centre, see the book a driving test section.

Rescheduling or cancelling the driving test
Driving Tests can be rescheduled or cancelled. Changing your driving test date can be done providing three working days’ notice is given. Throughout the UK practical driving test centres, pass rates vary. Certain centres, often in very busy areas may have a slightly lower pass rate and in this situation, some test candidates decide to take their test at an alternative test centre. The driving test pass rates section may show driving test pass rate statistics for your practical test centre.

Horrible patronising examiners. No interest whatsoever for actually giving constructive feedback or at least caring about their job...

I shouldn't have failed disappointed with you lot for this as i tried so hard. I failed because of another stupid driver. I responded to the incident in a responsible manor and i believe i should have passed. RIDICULOUS very upset.

i had my test today and failed i had 5 minors and failed due to a car reversing out of i drive, i slowed down he stopped his manoeuvre so i carried on then he started reversing whilst i was still passing which caused me to fail! not happy. annoying thing is that if i stopped she would have told me to carry on going.

Had my test with Mark. Admittedly I was really nervous and did myself no favours and should have failed however he was so arrogant and patronising he didn't help at all. Far to up himself to care about anyone else
