THE DRIVING TEST IN Oxford

Many varied roads and systems will feature from Oxford Driving Test Centre. An example of road types will include: country rural roads (see the country road driving tutorial for a guide on how to assess speed when approaching corners), village driving, high speed ‘A’ roads and dual carriageway systems such as the A40 and busy in-town driving.

The streets of Oxford will test your ability at various road systems. Multi-lane large roundabouts and mini roundabouts, marked, controlled and unmarked crossroads and junctions are to be expected.

Residential areas are often used for test manoeuvre purposes, the emergency stop procedure and various other exercises such as meeting oncoming vehicles in narrow lane situations (often involving passing parked cars). All practical driving tests for cars now include approximately 10 minutes of independent driving. A full explanation of this can be found in the independent driving section.

Test centre routes are designed by the examiners who conduct practical tests at their local test centre. The routes are designed in such a way so to involve as many diverse roads and traffic systems as possible, often including very challenging parts. Gaining knowledge of the test routes provides valuable insight into the type of roads that will be taken during your test. Driving test routes may be available to view or a downloadable app for your mobile device in your area, including Oxford Driving Test Centre.

Perhaps I got lucky but I had a good experience of this test centre. Zena, my examiner, was lovely. She made me feel comfortable from the start which really helped keep the nerves under control. Passed first time with 4 minors.

My examiner was Alan. Start to finish I felt comfortable. He chatted to me when I wanted to and was quiet when I needed him to be. Very pleasant throughout.

Test examiner got into the car, moaned about it being too hot and promptly put on the aircon, my daughter who is a tiny size 8 was freezing. The examiner then proceeded to talk about how fed up she was that she had to clean up after her children whist the test was going on... The examiner also did an emergency stop (a major) and then later said she shouldn't of but she panicked...My daughter failed!!
