In-town driving will feature many road traffic systems such as roundabouts, junctions and crossroads. Featured are often residential areas, where the examiner often takes candidates for test manoeuvres, of which the examiner will choose one from the possible four.

These residential areas are often narrow lanes where examiner often assess your ability to deal with oncoming vehicles whilst passing parked cars. The driving test from Redditch Driving Test Centre will last approximately 30 to 40 minutes, and will involve around 10 minutes of independent driving and a 1-in-3 of the emergency stop procedure.

I have failed 4 times and had the same instructor for each test, he isn't very welcoming at all, is rude and abrupt. I tried to make conversation on a few occasions to break the ice and make myself feel comfortable and had nothing back but blunt replies. Redditch is a very hard place to do your test and the instructors don't seem to make things easy for you, I did think it was just me but others seem to agree too. I wouldn't recommend this test centre at all, especially for young adults as they make you feel so small and do really knock your confidence, for things that would be marked as minors at an easier test place.

I failed due to a silly mistake of another driver resulting in me making the wrong decision so I hold my hands up however, prior to the exam I told my instructor I was feeling sick with nerves and I was scared under the pressure, he didn't smile to make me feel any less comfortable, I felt like a naughty student at a head principles disciplinary. I tried to break the ice for my own sake so I could relax, nothing. He also glared at me like I was stupid when he asked me to read a 'insert car brand here' reg and I said 'the black or blue car, sorry, I'm not good with car names' I could see both the cars and the regs, I didn't know what the car was though, pretty sure it's got jack to do with the test. So I don't know every named car on the market, big deal. The final insult was him already failing me for my mistake and still making me continue with the rest of the test and a manoeuvre on a hill (3 point turn) which my instructor specifically told me an examiner will do on a flat road. (I nailed my manoeuvre for the record and got 6 minors over all) he honestly enjoyed making me sqirm. I genuinely feel this man likes the power and enjoys making people uncomfortable, I've spoken to a few people who have had the same guy and every single one has the same feelings and vibes off of this man. He isn't welcoming and makes you feel like a failure before you've even done the registration sight test.
