Located within busy urban roads, the driving test from Rochdale Driving Test Centre will involve a varied assortment of roads. Expect rural country driving (see the country road driving tutorial) and high speed ‘A’ roads to be part of the test routes.

Town driving will be assessing your ability at multiple traffic systems such as roundabouts, junctions and crossroads, all of various types and sizes. Residential areas are often used for a test manoeuvre purposes as well as testing your ability for meeting oncoming vehicles within narrow lanes and passing parked car distances.

The passing parked cars tutorial explains how best to do this. One manoeuvre will be expected during test (the choice is for the examiner to decide) with a high chance of the emergency stop procedure. Around 10 minutes of independent driving will also be requested.

Test centre routes are designed by the examiners who conduct practical tests at their local test centre. The routes are designed in such a way so to involve as many diverse roads and traffic systems as possible, often including very challenging parts. Gaining knowledge of the test routes provides valuable insight into the type of roads that will be taken during your test. Driving test routes may be available to view or a downloadable app for your mobile device in your area, including Rochdale Driving Test Centre.

Driving tests can be booked to take place from Monday to Friday throughout the day. Many test candidates benefit by booking their driving test so that it takes place during the quieter parts of the day missing out on morning and afternoon rush hour.

If you have your driving booked test here, be aware that one of the female examiners (Claire I believe her name is) very frequently takes her pupils to the gyratory (located at the co-ordinates below) to fail them for going "over the white lines". She is an incredibly rude lady who has no business interacting with any human being, and it is 100% worth revising this gyratory before your test, she usually tells the student to follow the signs for "Town centre" on approach, but it will be worth trying in all directions.
The co-ordinates for the gyratory (you may refer to it as a roundabout) can be pasted into google maps, they are: 53.604176, -2.146932

Hope this helps, and good luck on your test.
