THE DRIVING TEST IN York

Located on the outskirts of York, the driving test from York Driving Test Centre will involve many varied road types. Rural country roads are often featured as are high speed ‘A’ roads such as the A1237 dual carriageway. In-town driving will involve many road systems including junctions, roundabouts and crossroads.

Examiners also take you around residential streets. These areas are typically used to assess passing distances, such as passing parked cars (often with oncoming vehicles approaching) and passing cyclists.


The driving test will incorporate one test manoeuvre along with the emergency stop procedure having a 1-in-3 possibility of being requested. Independent driving will take approximately 10 minutes of the driving test.
